The American Heart Association now offers the Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers course online. This format allows for a flexible and cost effective training option for healthcare providers with busy schedules. Here is how it works:
PART 1: You complete the cognitive portion of the course on a computer with online access. Taking approximately 1-2 hours, a certificate of completion will be available to print and must be brought with you to the skills check-off session (part 2).
PART 2: Arrive in person to perform the skills test portion of the course within 60 days of completing part 1; there are no exceptions or extensions to this time period. In order to complete this course you must have the Completion Certificate from the American Heart Association (AHA) approved online course (part 1) you completed (certificate must have the AHA name on the certificate). This must be given to the instructor at the beginning of class. If you do not have your certificate you will not be able to complete the course. Skills testing will include:
Adult Skills: Relief of choking, CPR, AED, rescue breathing, and use of a bag-mask device
Child Skills: Relief of choking, CPR, AED, rescue breathing, and use of a bag-mask device
Infant Skills: Relief of choking, CPR, AED, rescue breathing, and use of a bag-mask device
* Note: This course is Intended for participants who provide heath care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital. For certified or noncertified, licensed or healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, dentists, dental assistants, hygienists, paramedics, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician's assistants, residents or fellows, or medical, dental and nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers, and other allied health personnel.
